Course details

  • intended for practicing physiotherapists/physical therapists (must be on active roster with provincial/state licensing body) who desire to increase their knowledge and skills in treating those with vestibular disorders. One year clinical experience is required.
  • hybrid version: time-limited on-line learning complemented with 3-day weekend of practical labs and instruction.
  • small instructor to student ratio means you receive significant personal instruction.
  • 3 exams – (Competency is determined at time of writing the exams and can not be guaranteed on an on-going basis. On-going competency is the sole responsibility of each participant.)

About competency-based instruction

Competency based training requires “hands-on” learning and instruction in techniques and treatments. We want you to experience and learn the techniques and treatments to the best of your ability. For this reason, we limit the number of participants to ensure plenty of one-on-one learning as well as providing a safe, healthy environment. The very nature of hands-on learning necessitates all participants follow strict health protocols that meet or exceed safety measures mandated by the various health departments within Canada and the provinces.

VESTIBULAR REHABILITATION: BEYOND THE FUNDAMENTALS

  • intended for physiotherapists/physical therapists who have completed a competency vestibular rehab course

Model of the inner ear with moving “otoconia”

Right SCC
Left SCC

These models are ideal for educating patients and colleagues about BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positioning Vertigo). I (Karen) have used them when I present to colleagues, instruct my course(s) as well as educating patients about BPPV. The “lightbulb” moment when people see the process and what the various treatments aim to achieve is priceless. I’ve also used the models to assist in developing modifications to and/or developing treatment options.

These models are manufactured in Manitoba, Canada! We customize the “otoconia” and now are offering 4 colors: black, blue, red and green…

color choices of “otoconia”

so you can customize the models to your clinic color if you like!

The models are based on MRI images of the semi-circular canals (SCC) of the inner ear.**

We request manufacture of the models when you place an order. This not only keeps your costs affordable, but allows us to specify the color of the “otoconia” to your request. This does mean it takes a bit longer to fulfill the order, but we feel this is a minor detail. We ship your custom ordered model(s) as soon as they are ready.
