Learn more about the instructor:

Karen Reimer graduated from the University of Manitoba (U of M), School of Medical Rehabilitation in Physical Therapy in 1995.

Early in her career, she developed a special interest in vestibular disorders. This led her to the USA for competency based training from leading vestibular researchers, such as Dr. S. Herdman, Dr. S. Whitney, Dr. R. Clendaniel, Dr. F. Horak, and others.

Similar to many others in this field, Karen is passionate about vestibular rehabilitation. Desiring to further pursue research in vestibular disorders led her to the Master of Science (Rehabilitation) degree, graduating in 2013. Her research was an innovative physiotherapy treatment protocol for those suffering peripheral vestibular disorders.

In 2004, Karen founded a private clinic (Physiotherapy ‘n Balance) which was located on Corydon Avenue in Winnipeg, MB.  Desiring to concentrate on research and teaching, she retired from private practice in 2020, however, missing the interaction with patients, Karen returned to active practice and currently works part-time in Winnipeg, MB.

In 2016, Karen developed Fundamentals of Vestibular Rehabilitation: A Competency-Based Course and teaches throughout Canada. The course is intended for physiotherapists/physical therapists who have been practicing for a minimum of 1 year. In 2020, the hybrid version of the “Fundamentals” course was developed and combines on-line learning and in-person instruction of skills, techniques and treatments. The hybrid version has been received with accolades! The course is “mobile” and Karen has taken the course to a number of clinics and locations in Canada. Connect with Karen if you are interested in providing the course in your location.

Utilizing her extensive training and 30+ years clinical experience, Karen currently treats patients at Pure Lifestyle (Pembina Location) in Winnipeg, MB. Mentoring physiotherapists who have completed her competency vestibular rehab training, speaking engagements, and consulting with other medical professionals in the area of vestibular rehab keep her busy. Karen previously taught in the Master of Physical Therapy program in the College of Rehabilitation Sciences at the U of M.

Currently, we are working on an Advanced Vestibular Rehabilitation course and anticipate it will be available soon. Keep watching for this exciting development or contact us for more information.

Developing a vestibular product (inner ear with moving “otoconia”) has long been a desire for Karen. This motivated her to pursue having the models manufactured in Manitoba, Canada. She uses the models extensively in her lectures, presentations and work and is excited to offer these models to other medical professionals.

Work – life balance is key and Karen embraces this. Always ready to learn, she has completed a professional chocolatier course and has gifted friends with some tasty creations.
